During the summer of 2013, I had a heart attack competing in a triathlon. I didn’t have any of the typical warning signs. I wasn’t overweight, didn’t have high blood pressure or cholesterol issues. I didn’t smoke and my nutritional habits were well above average. My biggest problem was a genetic history. While there is very little I can do to change my genetic history, there are things I can directly change and manage that will give me the best chance of not experiencing another heart related episode. Through that event, I became hyper focused on nutrition and physical fitness as future deterrents to future heart issues. Also as part of my cardiac rehab, I was introduced to yoga and meditation as tools to help with my physical fitness and stress relief which are huge players in heart related issues.
As a result of my rehab activities and my nutritional research, I became excited and motivated to share my story and what I learned with others so they might be able to prevent some of the issues I’ve had to deal with. So I decided to get certified as a health coach, yoga instructor and Broga® Yoga instructor. I want to share my story with everyone, but I’m particularly motivated to share it with other men because, let’s face it, most of us tend to be overworked, over stressed and do not get enough exercise.
My intention is to educate, motivate and encourage people to become everything God designed them to be. I plan to do this through Balanced Health seminars, workshops and classes as well as through Yoga, Broga® Yoga, and YogaFaith classes.
