Leonard Cruz was born in Pampanga, the Philippines and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. In 1983 he was a Finalist in YoungArts in Miami, Florida and was later named Presidential Scholar in the Arts. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s of Arts Degree in Dance from U.C.L.A.
In 2013 Dr. Leonard Cruz (PhD) obtained his doctoral degree in Urban Education with a multidisciplinary focus on the creative and performing arts at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee where he also received his MFA degree in Performance/Choreography 2009. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key National Honor Societies and is an Advanced Opportunity Program Fellow.
He has been a Guest Assistant Professor in Dance at Duke University 2008-2009 and faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2009-2010. He was a Lecturer in the Dance Department at UW-Milwaukee in 2011. In spring of 2012 he was a Guest Assistant Professor at Webster University in St.Louis, Missouri. Currently, he is on his fourth year as an Assistant Professor in Theater, Movement and Dance at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Cruz a certified Yoga Educator (RYT 200) from Evolve Yoga in southern Maryland and is an Integrative Health Coach from Duke University. He is happy to be a Broga Instructor!
